Dan & Kay's Visit

Dan & Kay came to visit over the weekend. We had a wonderful time. We went out to a great restaurant that was participating in Denver Restaurant Week, what a treat!
Our entrees-delicious!

On Saturday we went skiing at Winterpark. I have snowboarded on and off again in the past years but I don't think I have been skiing since I was 10 years old. Joe was a great teacher, I felt like I started to get the hang of it although my legs are killing me today. I don't think i'll ever be a pro because I'm way too scared of falling and breaking something. I don't need those medical bills!

Joe being a great husband and stretching my tired legs

After skiing we stopped in a old mountain casino town, Central City. Cool old buildings.

Beautiful icicles hanging from our house=don't walk under them! They all fell by the end of the day I could hear them crashing down.

Joe's Fly Fishing Post

Although the temperatures here have barely gotten over freezing Joe is a dedicated fisherman and has made it out in the semi frozen streams to catch some pretty impressive trout. Check out his fishing post here:

Breckenridge

Last weekend Joe and I drove to Breckenridge to see Vanessa, Dee Dee and Zorba. They went skiing while I did some exploring around the cute little mountain town.
Here is a view of the mountains from Longmont, a view I see everyday now!

Further up in the mountains. The drive to Breckenridge is about an hour and 1/2 but we hit some sat morning traffic so it took about 2 1/2 hrs. It's such a pretty drive so it is worth it.

A nice sunny clear day in the mountains. The cute town of Breckenridge.

I stopped next to a frozen lake where people were kite boarding-it was awesome to see! Looks like fun!

We happen to be in town during an annual snow carving competition. It was really cool, the carvers start out with a 20 ton block of snow and then they create these masterpieces.

They start with clay sculptures

And turn it into this

Moving Day

Our drive across Kansas to Colorado was very smooth. My dad was very helpful and drove his van with a U-Haul trailer full of our stuff all the way to Longmont-thanks Papa! Joe and I drove our cars across and thankfully we had nice weather the whole way.
It took about 9 1/2 hours from Paola to Longmont-not bad!
Beautiful Kansas prairie. Maybe not beautiful to everyone but I like it, so much space! ;)

I like the way the sun hits the hay bales

A wind farm off I-70. I like the little black cows in the front. The wind turbines go on for many miles. I googled to find some info on this wind farm. It's called the Smoky Hills Wind Farm and it has about 150 turbines. Some cool facts about the project:

-100 turbines generate enough energy to power 42,000 homes
-100 tower farm with a rated capacity of 100 megawatts running at 30 percent capacity would generate an income in 10 years of approximately $47 million
-The project offsets approximately 450,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, 1,500 tons of NOx per year, and 2,000 tons of SO2 per year

A storm rolling in fast, luckily we were driving into the clearing.
Welcome to "Colorful Colorado"!
